Two Things to Consider When Choosing Your Home's New Security Doors

Here are two things to consider when selecting your home's new security doors.
Whether or not you want them to blend in with your home's other doors
You'll need to think about whether or not you want these security doors to look similar to your home's other doors. If, for example, you want the doors to be a deterrent, then you might want to opt for ones that don't look like standard residential doors and instead look more industrial or commercial. Thick steel doors might be suitable in this situation.
In contrast, if you're not bothered about visually deterring intruders with these doors (because, for example, you use things like visible CCTV cameras or security signs for this purpose), then it might be best to get ones that look like normal residential doors (i.e., ones that come in wood or UPVC and whose hardware is decorative as well as functional) but which have specialist lock features that make them more secure. This could also be the right choice if this is not your 'forever home' and you'll probably sell it eventually, as whilst many potential buyers would be pleased to discover the doors of the property are very secure, they might prefer ones that are also a good aesthetic fit for the house.
How many locks you want each door to have
You'll also need to consider how many locks you'd like each door to have. For example, it might be best to ensure an exterior security door only has a couple of very secure locks, rather than four or five, if you are worried about an intruder getting in through a window and you needing to quickly escape from the building through this door. Only having to unlock a couple of locks would allow you to get out of the house faster in this situation.
You might also want to opt for just one or two high-quality locks if you have any conditions that affect your dexterity (such as carpal tunnel or arthritis), as it might be too uncomfortable to have to open, for example, five locks in one go every time you need to open a particular door.
Conversely, if you're not worried about intruders attacking you but are using the security doors to keep valuables safe, then you should choose ones with four or more locks which, whilst they will take more time to unlock, will provide extra layers of security that will keep the contents you need to protect safe.
